Needle Felted Brooch

I know, I know, I must seem like I’m stalking the poor lady! I took Ma to see Denise at Crafty Girl, as part of the Warwickshire Open Studios! We had a 3 hour tutorial booked at her home workshop to make an animal head needle felted brooch. This is the tutorial that we are having at our Crafter’s Club on 19th September, so wanted to see how much could be done within that time.

The weather was gorgeous and we sat with the door wide open in a beautiful setting. I decided on a fox as I had already done a hare (Mr. Walter Shipdown) and Denise took us through the steps to create the basic head shape, followed by the ears and detailing.

It was so therapeutic, sitting in the sunshine and stabbing all your worries away. We were interrupted a few times by visitors doing the Open Studios tour, but we chatted and carried on with out tasks!

When I went to my full day Crafty Gal tutorial, I got a kit for Ma, so that I could teach her how to make a fox at home. I always had the intention of bringing her along to this quick tutorial as she is away on our September date! Ma decided to do a head for the fox body she had already created and it was wonderful seeing our individual styles!

Once I had finished my fox head, I felt like something was missing. I had nothing to make a monocle or top hat with, but that didn’t seem to be what he needed. So I made him a pipe! Luckily Denise had a huge tub of acorn cups and I used one of these and felted the centre of the tobacco bowl, with smoke pluming up.

So here is Lord Reynard. I shall have to felt him as a full-bodied fellow at some point, but for the moment I am proud as punch to be wearing him on my lapel.

If you would like to come along to our special Crafty Gal workshop, it is on 19th September 2018, 9.30am til 12.30pm. It is pre-book only and costs £20, which includes entrance, unlimited hot beverages and the 3 hour workshop! You do not have to pay straight away, but all payments need to be completed by 20th August at the latest.
